The whites of the eyes

Have you every led a transformation program or tried to drive sustainable change? I have. Dozens of times over the past 20+ years!
What I've learned over the years, is that what makes the biggest difference in getting results, is looking people in the whites of the eyes. I've always focused on the people side of change...knowing that employee behavior and attitudes can make or break any improvement initiative. As I have grown as a leader and change agent, I've seen first-hand how much of a difference it makes to intentionally and thoughtfully engage with the people involved.
When you can sit toe-to-toe with someone, look them in the eye, as if they are the only person in the room, and help them see the impact they could have, and what they need to do to make it happen...they are significantly more likely to step-up...or step-out! When you stick with someone, help them understand the possibilities, the potential, you can rekindle the fire in their belly!
What you get from this is 3-fold:
Deeply engaged and vested employees who lean in
People who trust you, connect with you on an emotional level, and follow you through thick and thin
Commitment to change and grow, or change and move on, if that's the right thing.
The business results that follow are significant - you will end up with successful change programs that deliver on-time, on budget (or better), and last the test of time!
Hope you enjoyed reading!
Cheers,
Wendy
